We use the dye-sublimation method of printing for most of our custom products. Sublimation is a digital printing technology which uses full color artwork and works with polyester and polymer-coated substrates. The process uses the science of sublimation, in which heat and pressure are applied to a solid, turning it into a gas through an endothermic reaction without passing through the liquid phase. But it’s a lot simpler than it sounds.

  1. Your design is printed with special sublimation dye onto high-release inkjet paper – sort of like a transfer, but totally unlike a transfer.
  2. The printed design is then transferred onto your product via a heat press, which transfers the ink particles onto the surface of the item.
  3. Et voilà – a permanent, high resolution, full colour print. And because the dyes are infused into the surface of your item at a molecular level (rather than applied at a topical level such as with screen printing, science fans) the print will not crack, fade or peel under normal conditions.
